What is the
difference between custom framing and
do-it-yourself framing?
When you bring your art to The Artful Framer for custom
framing, we do all of the work. We help you select framing
materials (frame, mat, glass, mounting, needlepoint
treatment, or other components), we show examples of
literally hundreds of professionally framed selections in
the showroom, and then we bring it all together, ready for
pick up in one to three weeks. Of course, and almost always,
we can accommodate rush orders too. All you need to do is
bring in your artwork. We take care of all of the work from
there.
If time is critical for your project, then you can frame the
piece yourself. If we have all of the materials in stock, we
can cut the materials (wood or metal frame, mats, and glass)
for you. If you choose a wood frame, we can join the frame
for you.

What should
I bring when I go to a custom framer?
Most importantly, bring in the items that you want to have
framed. As well, if you have the location of the piece
already picked out, you can also bring in fabric samples, or
photographs of the area, or any colors or styles that you
will want the piece to enhance. A primary goal of The
Artful Framer is make yours dreams and ideas a reality with
our work.

What does the
term acid-free mean?.
In
reference to conservation framing, this means that mat or
mounting board is free of lignin. Lignin, when exposed to any
form of light and oxygen, turns acidic. In turn, this affect can
cause the artwork to become brittle or discolored.

What should I
expect when I work with a custom picture framer?
Professional framers can knowledgeably advise you about the
piece you are bringing in to be framed. Our goal is stay
current with all established design trends, and keep supplies of
the latest materials. Our experience with art, pictures,
collectibles, and practically any thing else imaginable that can
be framed is broad in scope.

When should I frame my artwork with conservation framing?
In the purest sense, conservation framing is the use, methods, and materials, approved by the
U.S. Library of Congress for custom picture and art framing, that do not alter or cause damage to the artwork in any way. Completely reversible, conservation (or, preservation) framing helps to protect your art or photographs from fading.
